Ventur History
Our family run business “VENTUR” started this venture with full dedication in the beginning of the 1960’s when Malta was recovering from the 2nd World war and the Maltese and Gozitans citizens needed many Commercial Trucks, Vans, Commercial Equipment, and engines to run Malta’s economy by many new business start-ups and farmers who were striving to get our country together in a better place.
Our grand-father Mr. John Mary Grima nicknamed “Ventur” started this automotive business in the early 1960s by risking all his savings and decided to travel to the United Kingdom to explore how he can start to import used vehicles and diesel engines at an affordable cost and ready to use by the Maltese customers to run the country’s economy and accommodate their demand from our old premises in an alley in Mosta.
For that time this business was a very challenging and risky move, getting a plane for United Kingdom every month was not easy as today…. travelling by UK railway and locating used affordable vehicles was not easy …. No internet, no online services, no laptops, no smart phones, no google maps …. Shipping the goods bought was another big challenge and in those old times there was no direct service and direct shipping lines …. Heavy loads used to be loaded and secured on each other to save costs as shipping was expensive ……. ones in Malta Port documentation and customs release were another challenge!! But with dedication and hard work he did it all alone!!
From the 60’s to the late 80’s Mr. John Mary Grima imported and sold thousands of used Diesel Engines, Commercial Vans, and Trucks to our islands and built a strong reputation for the VENTUR brand as his word of honour and hard work resulted in the best solutions to help all customers to be on the Maltese roads during those hard early times to have an affordable vehicle with an economical drive for their work and family.
During this period his Grand Son and 2 siblings grew up in this sector and with big enthusiasm continued to strive and move forward this family business to Mr. John Mary Grima bigger and bigger steps with adding more and more challenges as the Maltese economy was rapidly growing.
Our dear Father Mr. Emmanuel Grima the elder Son used to join his father after school and by the early 70’s he was ready to continue his father’s John Mary legacy in striving to be the best on Island in importing and selling all Automotive needs for the Maltese customers.
Emmanuel continued to import and explore more types of vehicles and used to import and sell mostly popular family Cars, 4wd vehicles, Commercial Vans, big and medium size Trucks, Farming Tractors, Construction Machinery, Cranes, Used Diesel Engines, and he also was a large stockist for Tyres and spare parts.
In 1989 he opened a newer and bigger Premises in Thomas Dingli Street, Mosta, just 50 meters away from San Silvestru Chapel.
Emmanuel was also a professional auto mechanic and with this profession he could choose the best vehicles and help his customers in the best way . From a very young age till the mid 1990’s without the presents of smart phones, internet or google maps…he was continuously travelling to UK Auctions every month to buy the best vans, trucks, and commercial equipment available for the Maltese market with affordable prices.
With his honesty and kindness offered to each client he took the VENTUR brand at a higher step where he increased the popularity across the Maltese Islands for the best automotive imports for all types of vehicles providing an impeccable customer service.
In the mid 1990’s Emmanuel was one of the first importers in Malta to explore the Japanese market and took the risk to explore this new far away market. It was not easy to manage such imports from such a long distance and buy vehicles from such different culture were far east imports were such a new venture for all Europe without today facilities like internet service but Mr. Emmanuel managed to build a successful business which is still running up till today by serving our islands with best worldwide vehicles with quality and affordability till today times.
Till beginning of the new millennium just before he passed away, he was still importing weekly new stock of Commercial Vans 4wd’s Pickups, SUV’s Cars, Forklifts, Trucks, Construction Machinery, farming Tractors following by many popular and reliable family cars from UK and Japan.
Since the early 2000’s I Clinton Grima and my brother Kurt Grima took the business in our hands built by our dear ancestors and our priority is to offer the best customer service and full dedication in the automotive industry as our brand always strived for, since day one
We strive daily to be the best on Island and to choose the best solutions and products in the automotive sector. We work every day to maintain the brand history by importing and selling the best vehicles and to help our customers all the way by choosing their dream car and offering the best deal every day as for pricing, finance options and part exchange.
